Dry Needling

Accelerate your recovery

Dry needling (aka dry needling therapy or trigger point acupuncture) is a technique used in alternative medicine to release trigger points by inserting a needle similar to that in acupuncture. Trigger points in muscles occur because of various reasons such as Injury to the muscle fiber, Trauma, Repetitive motion, lack of activity, etc.

In this treatment, the needle is inserted into these trigger points aiming for the relief of muscle spasms and release of trigger points.

How is dry needling done?

The first step in this treatment is to find the trigger points in the muscles. Then according to the size of the muscle, the appropriately sized acupuncture needle is inserted at certain angles with the aim of relaxing the muscle.

What is the difference between dry needling and acupuncture?

In acupuncture, the needles are directly inserted into acupuncture points, however, the needles are inserted into trigger points that are found, which differs from patient to patient according to their complaints. Furthermore, acupuncture needles are inserted and left in place for 20 minutes, whereas needles are not left in place but rather inserted and taken out 5-6 times.

How often is dry needling done?

In general, this treatment is done 1-2 times a week, depending on the patient’s condition. The total number of sessions varies between 3-and 5 sessions. Some individuals might require 8-10 sessions depending on the severity of their condition.

“I had my first dry needling appointment with Ferhat after suffering from trigger point pain in my left shoulder and neck. He thoroughly explained how it works, what to expect, and the mechanism of action of the treatment — which I greatly appreciated as a healthcare professional. ”.
